EEGAH ! 1962

Archie Hall was a supporting actor in B-movies and westerns for over 20 years before opening his ... all » own film production company. He produced one nudie cutie before deciding his 19-year-old son, Arch Jr., was star material and started building a career around him.

Now known as Arch Hall, Senior, he wrote, produced, and directed the movie 'Eegah' under the pseudonym of Nicholas Merriwether, played a sizeable supporting role under the name William Watters, put Arch Jr. in the lead, and drafted his own office secretary, Marilyn Manning, to play the female lead. Archie's wife, Addalyn Pollitt, has a two-line bit part in the last reel.

Only Richard Kiel, playing the prehistoric title character, had no previous ties with Arch Senior. His portrayal of Eegah is one of the most sympathetic monsters you're ever going to meet.

Arch Jr. not only gets to show off his acting prowess, but also gets to sing three tunes (About girls named 'Vicki' and 'Valerie', though his girlfriend's name is Roxy.) Daddy was grooming him to be a rock n' roll star, too.

Infamous goofs include quoting a verse of the Bible that doesn't exist, in the intended-to-be-profound epilogue.

What we end up with is a drive-in classic that's a lot more fun than it intended to be.

HORROR HIGH "Seacrist Elementary School" Part 3 and 4

AKA. YOUR SCARING THE CHILDREN

Cy Wistrom is a young man who had been an unlucky child in a cursed elementary school. Seacrest Elementary was plagued until its closure in 1978. During his time at the school, Cy witnessed the brutal slaughter of his teacher by an axe-wielding maniac. That, however, was only the beginning of the bizarre events. The body of a deceased former janitor was propped up in one of the school rooms. The cryptic message left on the chalkboard read simply, “to all this darkness.” There was clearly no end to the unspeakable darkness at Seacrest. Before its closure, the assistant principal had been found murdered, and a freak fire broke out on a day in which the alarm systems had been temporarily dismantled. Photographed from behind a glass door were two flame-engulfed children who were never identified, nor listed as missing. The fact of their existence is dubious. Cy’s writing is not a journal entry as some of the other stories. It is instead the honest and angry account of his experiences at the elementary school to silence the reporters and spectators who continually hound him for the gory details.

I've never seen anything quite like it (and I've seen a LOT of horror movies) and I still find the video downright haunting. After a little Googling I was able to determine that the video was the work of an author who goes by the name of Soren Narnia. You can check out his website right here, and he's self-published several collections of his short stories that you can find on Amazon and other online retailers. I contacted him awhile ago just to make sure I still had his blessings to distribute his video online and he was good enough to give the thumbs up. «

Once the demon comes into the mortal world, his influence starts to spread like a spider web. Despite the obvious budgetary restraints, Karacadag manages to scare us slowly but surely, thanks to a solid script, aggressive sound design and a bunch of young, talented actors. CLOCKWORK ORANGE

Alex (Malcolm McDowell) has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others. Alex's journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick's future-shook vision of Anthony Burgess's novel. Unforgettable images, startling musical counterpoints, the fascinating language used by Alex and his pals - Kubrick shapes them into a shattering whole. Hugely controversial when first released, A Clockwork Orange won the New York Film Critics Best Picture and Director honors and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The power of its art is such that it still entices, shocks, and holds us in its grasp.
1972

TRIVIA

Rated #2 of the 25 most controversial movies of all time. Entertainment Weekly, 16 June 2006.

Kubrick had his assistant destroy all unused footage

The Car used by Alex and the droogs was the "Adams Probe 16", one of three ever made.

Premiere voted this movie as one of "The 25 Most Dangerous Movies".

In the music shop scene there is a list of Top Ten music bands up on the wall. One of the bands listed is Heaven Seventeen, which one of the girls mentions to Alex. This name was used by a real band in the 80's.

In 2007, the American Film Institute ranked this as the #70 Greatest Movie of All Time.

Contrary to popular claims, this film was never banned in the UK. It originally received an "X" rating in 1971 and was withdrawn from distribution in 1973 by the film's director. In 1999 (the year of Stanley Kubrick's death), the film was released again and received an "18" rating.

The writer of the book, 'Anthony Burgess' , lived for a time in Malaysia [where his wife was beaten by four American GI's, thus giving inspiration to this story]. In Malay, the word "orang" means man,[this is also part of the derivation of the word 'orangutan', the other half being derived from "hutan" meaning jungle] therefore, the title of the story is actually a pun on the British expression. Rather than a clockwork fruit, it is a clockwork man, which is, of course, exactly what Alex has become by the end of the film.

The title was translated into Serbo-Croatian as "The Orange From Hell" ("Paklena Naranca" - Croatian, "Paklena Pomorandza" - Serbian). This comes from the term for clockwork bombs - "Paklena Masina" - "Machine from hell"

In the early 1990's London's popular Scala Film Club showed this movie without permission from Stanley Kubrick or Warner Brothers. At Kubrick's insistence Warners sued and won. As a result the Scala was almost bankrupt and closed in 1993.

Much of the continuity errors in this film (glass placement in the dinner scene, Alex's droog's hats appearing/disappearing at the river, etc.) were all intentional. Stanley Kubrick was trying to have a slight disorienting effect in this film.

The combination to Alex's bedroom door is 17-34-89

In the scene where Reformed Alex is being taken into the woods by his old droogan buddies you can see the officer numbers on their uniforms 665 and 667 implying that Alex is 666.

The doorbell at the Alexander residence, "Home", plays the first four notes of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Fifth Symphony" (but in a different key).

At one point, Tinto Brass was attached to direct.

"Korova" is Russian for "Cow", hence the name "The Korova Milk Bar."

The word "Moloko" on the walls of the milk bar means milk in Russian.

Alex's prison number in the movie is 655321. "Six, double five, three, two, one." However in the book his prison number is 6655321.

Ken Russell was considered to direct the movie, with Oliver Reed playing the part of Alex.

THE MONSTER

Georges Méliès - The Monster (1903)

This is the earliest known monster movie. It is a silent movie short set in Egypt. An Egyptian prince has lost his beloved wife and he has sought a dervish who dwells at the base of the sphinx. The prince promises him a vast fortune if the dervish will only give him the opportunity of gazing once more upon the features of his wife. The dervish accepts the offer. He brings in from a neighboring tomb the receptacle containing the remains of the princess. He opens it and removes the skeleton, which he places upon the ground close beside him. Then, turning to the moon and raising his arms outstretched toward it, he invokes the moon to give back life to her who is no more. The skeleton begins to move about, becomes animated, and arises. The dervish puts it upon a bench and covers it with a white linen; a masque conceals its ghostly face. At a second invocation the skeleton begins again to move, arises, and performs a weird dance. In performing its contortions it partly disappears in the ground. While performing its feats it increases gradually in size, its neck assuming enormous proportions, much to the horror of the prince, who fails to see in this grotesque character the wife whom he has lost. The dance ceases. The dervish throws a veil over the hideous creature. Then appear the real princess as she was when her husband possessed her. The prince darts forward to take her into his arms to give her a last kiss, but the dervish stops him, wraps the young lady in the veil and throws her into the arms of the prince. When he removes the veil he finds only the skeleton of his former wife. The vision has disappeared, and the princess has returned to dust. The dervish withdraws, and the prince pursues him with his threats and curses.

DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS

DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS
1963

A shower of meteorites produces a glow that blinds anyone that looks at it. As it was such a beautiful sight, most people were watching, and as a consequence, 99% of the population go blind. This chaos results in the escape of some Triffids: experimental plants that are capable of moving themselves around and attacking people

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE MOVIE

TRIVIA
The triffids inspired the E.T. plants of _E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)_ .

When the film was finished it was too short, so the entire sequence where the triffids attack the lighthouse was added.

Although credited with "additional music", composer Johnny Douglas actually supplied more music than the main composer, Ron Goodwin. According to the official music cue sheets, Douglas wrote 26 mins, Goodwin 19 minutes

Triffids are referenced in the opening number of the stage/film musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show: "I really got hot when I saw Janette Scott fight a triffid that spits poison and kills." Janette Scott played the role of Karen Goodwin in the 1962 film adaptation.

The Triffids is also the name of an Australian rock group from the 1980s.

In the computer game Darwinia there is an immobile enemy unit called a triffid that looks like a flower and spits dangerous seeds.

The film 28 Days Later features several nods to The Day of the Triffids, including the protagonist awakening in a deserted hospital, finding other survivors by following tower lights, and encountering a paramilitary group in a country house whose plans include the acquisition of women with whom to repopulate the country.

The band Gorillaz have a reference to a triffid on the band's official website. Upon further inspection of band member Murdoc's trailer in the Kong Studio parking garage, you'll find a triffid as a potted plant. When you place your cursor over it, it makes a strange noise and the subtext states, "Absolutely Triffid".

The band Ash have a song titled "Day of the Triffids" on their album Trailer.

The game Kingdom of Loathing has a triffid as an enemy encounter in "The Spooky Forest."

In the Area 52 sequence of Looney Tunes Back in Action, a Triffid can be seen among the aliens housed there.

Episode 6 of the anime series Princess Resurrection (Kaibutsu Oujo) features a walking plant named a Triffid. It has many differences from those in the book, however.

In the computer game Star Control II, a Supox captain is named "Trifid".

In the Marvel comic "New Universal" #1 one of the main characters references The Day of the Trifids saying "Bright light in the sky.Everyone looks. In the morning everyone who looks is blind then, big walking plants sting all the blind people to death. The end."

OASIS OF THE ZOMBIE

1981

An expedition searching for treasure supposedly buried by the German army in the African desert during WW II comes up against an army of Nazi zombies guarding the fortune. Robert tells his story to a German treasure hunter named Kurt, who promptly murders him. Robert's son, upon learning of his father's death, vows to travel to Africa and find the lost gold himself. While the desert is hazardous enough by itself, the dangers lurking around this oasis are more than any of the treasure hunters ever imagined.

TRIVIA

Sony Pictures green-lighted this sequel just three days after _Grudge, The (2004/I)_ was released.

Director Takashi Shimizu went to Los Angeles to meet with producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi in a small office at Columbia Pictures. The purpose was to develop a story outline for the sequel's first draft, which also involved employees from Tapert and Raimi's production company Ghost House Pictures, producer Taka Ichise, and writer Stephen Susco. According to Tapert, the session was roughly seven or eight hours of people suggesting ideas for the story.

To keep the mood on the set light, the actors and director would often joke around and attempt to frighten one another. This included a Karaoke session performed by Shimizu, Takashi on Kebbel, Arielle's birthday.

The role of Vanessa was originally written for Vanessa Lengies, who eventually turned it down to film "My Suicide"; the part still bares her name.

Sony Pictures commissioned Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA to design a Haunt maze for its premiere in the month of October.

On the "Columbia" logo screen before the feature, the standard logo appears normal for a moment, then the hair grows and the Columbia statuette turns to Kayako as the word "Columbia" changes to "Grudge 2". The screen flashes for a moment as this happens.

28 WEEKS LATER

The film starts six months after the Rage virus has spread throughout the city of London. The United States Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population.

Part 1 Part 2

TRIVIA

* Extensive filming of a "US Army Camp / Base" took place during the weekend of 21st/22nd October 2006 in the courtyard outside the Citypoint Building, Ropemaker Street, London EC2. A large number of tents with US flags, cast in military dress and vehicles were in place. Additionally access to the sub-floor car park area appears to have been given to shoot an underground scene.

* Danny Boyle directed some of the second unit filming.

* Robert Carlyle had turned down a part in 28 Days Later... (2002).

* The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff doubled for the interior of Wembley Stadium because, at the time of filming, the interior of the newly built Wembley was still under construction.

* As the snipers are shooting down the infected early in the movie, one of them shouts "This is FUBAR!" FUBAR is an acronym that stands for 'F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition'.

SPOILER: Series Trademark - Eye Gouge killing: When Don attacks his wife after becoming infected, he attacks her and presses her eyes in with his thumbs. In the film's predecessor 28 Days Later... (2002) Jim attacks and kills a guard in the mansion using the exact same technique.

WHITE NOISE 2

A man's family is killed and he is brought back from the verge of death, he then realises he can identify people who are about to die.
Ties to static 'noise' from electrical appliances are stretched somewhat thinly (was this film written as a stand-alone then tied to 'White Noise)

HOUSE OF WAX

A group of friends on their way to a college football game falls prey to a pair of murderous brothers in an abandoned small town. They discover that the brothers have expanded upon the area's main attraction.. the House of Wax. And created an entire town filled with the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors. Now the group must find a way out before they too become permanent exhibits in the House of Wax.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

TRIVIA

* On 26 June 2004, a sound stage being used for the film burned to the ground during a test of special effects equipment. The fire was started by a candle destroying a studio where this movie was being filmed at Warner Bros Movie World on Australia's Gold Coast. One crew member was treated for burns to his arm no one else was injured. The smoke from the fire also crossed onto a nearby heavily used Highway which caused health concerns for driving motorists, the Highway was not shut down during this incident.

* Paris Hilton did not have to audition - she was the director's only choice for her role. The rest of the cast was built around her.

* Throughout the movie, several characters can be heard saying Paris Hilton's (Paige) "That's hot" catch phrase.

* The main villain's name is Vincent, a reference to Vincent Price who starred in the original House of Wax (1953).

* Although Chad Michael Murray's character and his sister are listed to have the last name "Jones", no actual last name was given for them. Chad, in a radio interview, was shocked to hear his character finally had a last name, and said that it was an ongoing debate on set.

* Jared Padalecki is one foot taller than co-star Elisha Cuthbert. To make herself appear taller in scenes where she and Padalecki would be filmed together, Cuthbert taped two-inch blocks of wood to the bottoms of her boots. This was only done during scenes where they would be shot from the knee and up.

* While filming the abandoned sugar mill chase, Paris Hilton was embarrassed by her scream, so the first three times she screamed she had the whole cast and crew scream along with her.

* In the movie theatre where Carly and Nick are hiding, most of the wax figures were actually extras wearing mask

1408

Based on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 surrounds supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. With the intention that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumor that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin's stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. But Enslin is determined to go through and convinced that the horrific past of 1408 is just mere coincidence and a myth. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don't check out by noon.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7

TRIVIA

* The initial inspiration for Stephen King came from a collection of real-life news stories about parapsychologist Christopher Chacon's investigation of a notoriously haunted room at the famous Hotel Del Coronado in Coronado, California.
* Kate Walsh was originally cast in this film, but was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the television show 'Grey's Anatomy'. She was replaced by Mary McCormack.
* The story this film was based on was almost never written. Stephen King originally created the first few pages of '1408' for his nonfiction book, "On Writing," as an example of how to revise a first draft. The story, however, intrigued him, and he wound up not only finishing a complete draft, but adapting it for an audio-book compilation of short stories.
* There are many references to the number "13" throughout the movie. The room is numbered "1408", add each number together equals 13. The room is on the 14th floor, and the Hotel skips the 13th floor, so the room is technically on the 13th floor. The room's key lock also has "6214" etched into it, which adds up to 13. And the first death was in the year 1912, which adds to 13.
* One of the first victims of the room was named "Grady." Grady was a character in "The Shining," Stephen King's other horror story about a hotel.
* Mike Enslin has a Chicago White Sox hat. Chicago is John Cusack's home town. Also, in a previous film, Eight Men Out (1988), John Cusack portrayed White Sox outfielder George "Buck" Weaver. John Cusack himself is a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.
* In addition to the previous numbers adding up to 13, the hotel is mentioned to be at 2245 Lexington Street in New York City. 2245 adds up to 13.
* When Gerald Olin is talking to Mike about his previous books he accidentally calls Mike's first book "The Long Walk," instead of "The Long Road Home." This is a reference to the Stephen King novel, "The Long Walk."
* Towards the beginning of his stay in room 1408, Mike mentions that "some smart-ass" once wrote about the 'banality of evil.' The smart-ass in question is German political theorist and intellectual Hannah Arendt, who wrote about the 'banality of evil' in her essay "Eichmann in Jerusalem."

THE INVASION (2007)

A mysterious epidemic is sweeping the world, but it takes one Washington DC psychiatrist to discover that the disease is extraterrestrial in origin. When her son becomes infected, she and a colleague must work together to find a cure,

Part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4

Trivia

* While filming in Baltimore, Daniel Craig got the call from 'Barbara Broccoli ' informing him he won the role of James Bond. He had to take a short period off shooting to fly back to London for the Casino Royale (2006) press release.
* While filming at the Chilean Embassy in Washington D.C., Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig were to drive a white SUV to the entrance, stop the car and allow valets to park it. Kidman forgot to place the car in park and as she got out it began to roll down the hill. Craig swooped in from the passenger side and dove at the car, hitting the emergency brake and stopping the disaster from proceeding. This happened during heavy rain effects.
* Originally wrapped in early 2006, the film underwent massive reshooting in 2007. The reason for this was the studio which didn't liked the cut director Oliver Hirschbiegel delivered. To change that, Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski were brought in for rewrites and James McTeigue to direct the new scenes.
* Director Oliver Hirschbiegel's English language debut.
* Nicole Kidman was involved in an accident while riding with others in a picture car mounted on trailer being towed by a camera truck rig. While filming a stunt in downtown Los Angeles, the truck took a turn too wide, slid on wet pavement, and collided with a light standard. Several stunt artists on the picture car were injured in the accident. Ms. Kidman was brought to the hospital as a precaution, but was able to return to the set the next day.

THE CUBE / CHILDREN OF THE CORN

Six total strangers awaken one day to find themselves alone in a cubical maze. Once they meet, they work together using their given skills and talents to survive the deadly traps which guard many of the colored cubic rooms. Using Leaven's mathematical skills, they press forward, upward, and downward through the hatches to try and find the outer shell.

WATCH THE CUBE

CUBE TRIVIA

* Shot on a single 14'x14' set, made to look like many different cubes through the use of different-colored panels.

* All of the characters are named after prisons: Quentin (San Quentin, California), Holloway (England), Kazan (Russia), Rennes (France), Alderson (Alderson, West Virginia), Leaven and Worth (Leavenworth, Kansas).

* Not only are the characters named after prisons but they reflect the prisons themselves. Example: Kazan (the mentally challenged character), in Russia is a disorganized prison. Rennes (the "mentor") was a jail that pioneered many of today's prison policies. Quentin (the detective) is known for its brutality. Holloway is a women's prison, and Alderson is a prison where isolation is a common punishment. Leavenworth runs to a rigid set of rules (Leaven's mathematics), and the new prison is corporately owned and built (Worth, hired as an architect).

* To show their support for the Toronto film industry, the special effects company C.O.R.E. did the digital effects for free.

* Director Vincenzo Natali directed a follow-up short film in which we see what is outside the cube. Natali has made a solemn vow never to reveal what was outside the cube, and destroyed the video years ago.

* One of the earlier drafts of the script had the characters finding bizarre alien food. The idea was subsequently lost after it gave too clear a definition as to who was responsible for the cube.

* The handles on all the hatches are industrial die holders used for cutting threads on rods and available in any hardware shop.

* In the original ending of the story Linda Hamilton's character Vicki was killed by the children. She joined "the blue man" on a cross and had her eyes cut out.

* Though real corn was used for most of filming, polyurethane corn had to be used for the more difficult action sequences.

SCOOBY DOO

In the late 60's and early 70's Scooby Doo rocked my horror world, For a lot of kids it was their first taste of horror. It was also a good way to find out if your friend where looses...like Scooby doo = cool, hate Scooby doo = @3%%en looser and future terrorist. I have a dungeon full of people who didn't like Scooby. Let's see what WIKIPEDIA has to say about Scooby.

Scooby-Doo is a long-running American animated television series produced for Saturday morning television in several different versions from 1969 to the present. The original series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, was created for Hanna-Barbera Productions by writers Joe Ruby & Ken Spears and character designer Iwao Takamoto. Hanna-Barbera produced numerous spin-offs and related works until being absorbed in 1997 into Warner Bros., which has handled production since then. Though the format of the show and the cast (and ages) of characters have varied significantly over the years, the most familiar versions of the show feature a talking dog named Scooby-Doo and four teenagers: Fred "Freddie" Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Norville "Shaggy" Rogers.

These five characters (officially collectively known as "Mystery, Inc.", but never referred to as such in the original series) drive around the world in a van called the "Mystery Machine", and solve mysteries typically involving tales of ghosts and other supernatural forces. At the end of each episode, the supernatural forces turn out to have a rational explanation, typically criminal plots involving costumes and special effects intended to frighten or distract. Later versions of Scooby-Doo featured different variations on the show's supernatural theme, and include characters such as Scooby's cousin Scooby-Dum and nephew Scrappy-Doo in addition to or instead of some of the original characters.

Scooby-Doo was originally broadcast on CBS from 1969 to 1976, when it moved to ABC. ABC aired the show until canceling it in 1986, and presented a spin-off, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, from 1988 until 1991. A new Scooby-Doo series, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, aired on the WB Network during the Kids' WB programming block from 2002 until 2005. The current Scooby-Doo series, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!, airs Saturday mornings on The CW network. Repeats of the original series, as well as second-run episodes of What's New, Scooby-Doo?, are broadcast frequently on the Cartoon Network and Boomerang in the United States and other countries.

NOSFERATU

NOSFERATU

An unauthorized production of Bram Stoker's work (The legal heirs didn't give their permission), so the names had to be changed. But this wasn't enough: The widow of Bram Stoker won two lawsuits (1924 and 1929) in which she demanded the destruction of all copies of the movie, however happily copies of it were already too widespread to destroy them all. Later, the Universal studios could break her resistance against this movie. Count Orlok's move to Wisburg (Obviously the real "Wismar") brings the plague traceable to his dealings with the Realtor Thomas Hutter, and the Count's obsession with Hutter's wife, Ellen the only one with the power to end the evil. SOME TRIVIA

The character Orlok is never seen blinking on screen.

Filmed between August and October 1921.

Many scenes featuring Graf Orlok were filmed during the day, and when viewed in black and white, this becomes extremely obvious. This potential blooper is corrected when the "official" versions of the movie are tinted blue to represent night.

Ruth Landshoff, the actress who played the hero's sister once described a scene in which she fled the vampire, running along a beach. That scene is not in any version of the film.

The character of Nosferatu is only seen on screen for a bit less than nine minutes in total throughout the whole film.

All known prints and negatives were destroyed under the terms of settlement of a lawsuit by Bram Stoker's widow. However, the film would subsequently surface in other countries.

The only complete, original copy is said to be owned by the German Max Schreck collector Jens Geutebrück.

Director F.W. Murnau found Max Schreck "strikingly ugly" in real life and decided the vampire makeup would suffice with just pointy ears and false teeth.

The creature that they say is a werewolf, during the scene at the Inn, is actually a Hyena.

Gustav von Wangenheim was not director F.W. Murnau's first or even his second choice, but his third one.

The movie was banned in Sweden due to excessive horror. The ban was finally lifted in 1972

Still, after 85 years, virtually all of the exteriors are left intact in the cities of Wismar and Lubeck.

There have been different first names for the main characters in different English versions. In a few, Hutter is called "Thomas", in others is "Jonathon". Although Hutter's wife is credited as "Ellen", in some versions she is called "Nina".

MUNSTER TRIVIA

Beverley Owen played Marilyn for the first 13 episodes and Pat Priest replaced her for the remainder of the series.

There was only one Drag-U-La (Grandpa's coffin car,) built for the show. It now hangs from the ceiling in Planet Hollywood in Atlantic City. There have been several replicas built since.

The uncredited voice of The Raven was supplied by Mel Blanc. On the rare occasions Blanc was unavailable, the Raven's voice was supplied by Bob Hastings.

The Munster Koach, and the Dragula car were both built by Hollywood car customizer George Barris.

Fred Gwynne also played Herman's twin brother Charlie and a reject creation of Doctor Frankenstein's named Johann.

For the first 13 episodes, in which Beverley Owen played Marilyn, Fred Gwynne appeared last in the opening credits. When Owen was replaced by Pat Priest and the sequence had to be re-shot, Gwynne appeared first in the credits. Since there were no further cast changes for the second season, the credits remained in that order for the remainder of the series.

Lily Munster's original first name was Phoebe in the pilot.

The pilot of the series was in color.

Grandpa's Drag-u-la racer was only used in one episode, despite being shown in the end credits of every 2nd season episode.

Beverley Owen, who played Marilyn Munster in the first 13 episodes, is a natural brunette. She wore a wig, and her hairline was often covered up by a headband. Pat Priest, who played Marilyn for the remainder of the series, is a natural blond, so that is her natural hair.

This show and its "rival" series "The Addams Family" (1964) both debuted within a week of one another in September 1964. At the end of that year's TV season, this show ranked #18 in the Nielsens, with a rating of 24.7, while The Addams Family came in at #23, with a 23.9 rating. At the time, Nielsens indicated what percentage of American TV households tuned in to any given program. By the end of the following year, both series were cancelled.

Eddie's pet dragon that lived under the stairs was named Spot.

Eddie's stuffed wolf was named Woof-Woof.

Grandpa's pet bat was named Igor.

Other member's of the Munster family were Lily's brother (and Grandpa's son) a werewolf named Lester and Uncle Gilbert, the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The Munsters lived at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Mockingbird Heights.

Grandpa wasn't Grandpa Munster. He was Lily's father, and their family name was "Dracula".

Eddie's full name was Edward Wolfgang Munster.

This series' title was supposedly derived from combining the words "fun" and "monsters".

Beverley Owen's final episode was "Family Portrait".

Bill Mumy was the original choice for Eddie Munster, but his parents didn't approve of the extensive makeup that would be used for his character. He would eventually guest on the episode "Come Back, Little Googie", playing an incorrigible brat, during the first season.

The character 'Herman Munster' was ranked #19 in TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time" (20 June 2004 issue).

Contrary to popular belief, The Munsters were not the first couple on TV to share a bed. It was real-life couple Mary Kay Stearns and John Stearns on their show "Mary Kay and Johnny" (1947) in the late 1940s.

The name of the funeral parlor that Herman worked for was Gateman, Goodbury and Graves.

The occasional role of Mr. Gateman was played by John Carradine.

The show was shot in black and white because the studio did not want to pay an extra $1,000 per episode for color.

The house that would later become Munster House first made an appearance in an episode of "Leave It to Beaver" (1957). Producers Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher created both series.

After the pilot was filmed, CBS execs insisted on re-casting the role of Lily Munster. Initially, both Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis balked at the notion of the part going to Yvonne De Carlo. However, later both Gwynne and Lewis agreed De Carlo was a great comedic actress.

The first season opening credits sequence was a parody of "The Donna Reed Show" (1958), which always began with Donna passing out lunches to her departing family members.

Butch Patrick (Eddie Munster) recorded a pop record to the tune of "The Munsters" theme in the early '80s called "What Ever Happened to Eddie?" as Eddie and the Monsters.

Although Bud Westmore is credited as make up artist on each installment of The Munsters, he merely supervised Universal's makeup department at the time. The actual, uncredited work was done by Karl Silvera (Herman's make-up and appliances) Perc Westmore (Grandpa), Abe Haberman (Lily) and 'Mike Westmore (I)' (Marylin and Eddie).

DRACULA

At Walpurgis Night, after a harrowing ride through the Carpathian mountains in eastern Europe, Renfield enters castle Dracula to finalize the transferral of Carfax Abbey in London to Count Dracula, who is in actuality a vampire. Renfield is drugged by the eerily hypnotic count, and turned into one of his thralls, protecting him during his sea voyage to London. After sucking the blood and turning the young Lucy Weston into a vampire, Dracula turns his attention to her friend Mina Seward, daughter of Dr. Jack Seward who then calls in a specialist, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, to diagnose the sudden deterioration of Mina's health. Van Helsing, realizing that Dracula is indeed a vampire, tries to prepare Mina's fiance, John Harker, and Dr. Seward for what is to come and the measures that will have to be taken to prevent Mina from becoming one of the undead. 1931 B/W

TRIVIA
Universal Studios commissioned a new musical score from composer Philip Glass. It premiered at The Brooklyn Academy of Music on 26 October 1999.

The role of Dracula was originally meant for Lon Chaney.

A Spanish-language version, Drácula (1931/I), was filmed at night on the same set at the same time, with Spanish-speaking actors.

The original plan was to make a big-budget adaptation of "Dracula" that would adhere strictly to Bram Stoker's novel. However, with the Great Depression, Universal didn't have the money to make such a sprawling film. Instead, they opted to adapt the much less expensive Hamilton Deane stage play.

Universal acquired the film rights to "Dracula" from Stoker's widow and the play's writer Hamilton Deane for $40,000.

Before he was cast as Count Dracula, actor Bela Lugosi acted as an unpaid intermediary for Universal Pictures in negotiating with the widow of author Bram Stoker in an attempt to persuade her to lower her asking price for the filming rights to the Dracula property. After two months of negotiations, Mrs. Stoker reportedly lowered her price from $200,000 to $60,000. This, however, further demonstrated to Universal how desperate Lugosi was to repeat his stage success as Count Dracula and secure the film role for himself.

Cinematographer Karl Freund achieved the effect of Dracula's hypnotic stare by aiming two pencil-spot-lights into actor Bela Lugosi's eyes.

The Royal Albert Hall sequence of the movie was filmed on the same stage where The Phantom of the Opera (1925) had been filmed.

The large, expansive sets built for the Transylvania castle and Carfax Abbey sequences remained standing after filming was completed, and were used by Universal Pictures for many other movies for over a decade.

Among the other actors mentioned as possible candidates for the role of Count Dracula were John Wray, Paul Muni, Conrad Veidt, Chester Morris, and William Courtenay.

Bela Lugosi was so desperate to repeat his stage success and play the Count Dracula role for the film version, that he agreed to a contract paying him $500 per week for a seven week shooting schedule, an insultingly small amount even during the days of the Depression.

The spider webs in Dracula's castle were created by shooting rubber cement from a rotary gun.

Bela Lugosi played the role of Dracula on Broadway in 1927 before touring the country with the show. The American performance of the British stage actor Hamilton Deane's adaptation of the book was a smashing success. Soon after the play began touring Universal started to express interest in the script.

Due to studio demands to cut costs, the film was shot in sequence.

When this film was re-released after the Production Code, several deletions were ordered made to the soundtrack. The deletions include Renfield's scream as he is being killed and Dracula's moan as the stake is driven through his heart. These deletions have been restored.

As was done for Frankenstein (1931), the original release featured a prologue introduction with Edward Van Sloan. This prologue was removed for the 1936 re-release. This footage is now assumed to be lost.

After the death of Lon Chaney, one of the first actors considered for the title role was Ian Keith.

While it is rumored thatBela Lugosi, could not speak English very well, and had to learn his lines phonetically, this is not true. Lugosi was speaking English as well as he ever would by the time this was filmed.

The studio did not want the scene where Dracula attacks Renfield to be filmed due to the perceived gay subtext of the situation. A memo was sent to the director stating "Dracula is only to attack women".

There was no real musical soundtrack in the film because it was believed that, with sound being such a recent innovation in films, the audience would not accept hearing music in a scene if there was no explanation for it being there (e.g., the orchestra playing off camera when Dracula meets Mina at the theatre).

Several famous elements often associated with Dracula are not visible in this film. At no point does Dracula display fangs. Also, the famous vampire bite mark on the neck is never shown either (though it is visible in the Spanish version).

Bela Lugosi played Dracula only once more on screen, in the comedy Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).

This Universal production became the most famous and successful film to pair David Manners with Helen Chandler. The pair had made two films at Warner Brothers/First National and one at Fox.

The peasants inside the inn are praying The Lord's Prayer in Hungarian.

Bette Davis (who had a contract at Universal at the time) was considered to play the part of Mina Harker. However, Universal head Carl Laemmle Jr. didn't think too highly of her sex appeal.

The opening music to this film is from Act 2 of Swan Lake.

In the scene where Dracula and Renfield are traveling to London by boat, the footage shown is from a Universal silent film called The Storm Breaker (1925).

Although he lived for 67 years after the film was released, David Manners (John Harker) never watched it.

In the first scene, the young woman reading from the tourist book was played by Carla Laemmle. Her uncle was Carl Laemmle, the founder and head of Universal Pictures.

When Carl Laemmle moved Universal to California in 1914, a version of "Dracula" was one of the first projects being considered. It was over fifteen years before this version was produced.

The movie's line "Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make." was voted as the #83 movie quote by the American Film Institute (out of 100).

When Bela Lugosi died in 1956, he was buried wearing the black silk cape he wore for this film.
